The Mountaineers (club)
The Mountaineers is an alpine club in the US state of Washington. Founded in 1906, it is organized as an outdoor recreation, education, and conservation 501(c)(3) nonprofit organisation, and is based in Seattle, Washington. The club hosts a wide range of outdoor activities, primarily alpine mountain climbing and hikes. The club also hosts classes, training courses, and social events. The club runs a publishing business, Mountaineers Books, which has several imprints. Publications include '' Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills''. The Mountaineers (band)
Mountaineers is a Welsh pop group, consisting of founding members Alex Germains (vocals and guitar), Ceri James (vocals and keyboard), and Tomas Kelar (drums and vocals). Having been discovered by Deltasonic founder Alan Wills, they were the first act to sign to the record label Deltasonic, home of Liverpudlian bands The Coral and The Zutons. The group produced all their own music. The original line-up released an eponymous 6-track EP (later dubbed the ''Red Thong EP'' after the opening track) on the Deltasonic imprint in 2001. This was picked up by BBC Radio 1 disc jockey Mark Radcliffe who played ''Red Thong'' (the track) on his national daytime show for a week in the November of that year. Mute Records signed the band and they released another eponymous 6-track EP (known as the ''Self Catering EP''; again after the title of the opening track) in 2003, followed by the album ''Messy Century'' in the September. ''The Mountaineers'' is an English "romantic comic opera" in three acts with a libretto by Guy Eden and Reginald Somerville (1867–1948), lyrics by Eden and music by Somerville. The story concerns Clarice, who challenges her two suitors to retrieve an edelweiss for her from the highest peak. The opera opened at the Savoy Theatre in London on 29 September 1909, under the management of C. H. Workman, and ran for a total of 61 performances, after some additions were made by Arthur Wimperis. It starred Workman, Elsie Spain, Claude Flemming, Jessie Rose and A. Laurence Legge. There was a provincial tour with many of the same cast, under the management of Harry P. ''Mountain of Destiny'' (german: Berg des Schicksals) is a 1924 German silent drama film written and directed by Arnold Fanck and starring Hannes Schneider, Frida Richard, Erna Morena, and Luis Trenker. The film is about an alpinist who falls to his death while climbing a dangerous peak. His son later succeeds where his father had failed. The film was released in the United Kingdom with the title ''The Mountaineers''. After seeing ''Mountain of Destiny'', Leni Riefenstahl, then a dancer, decided she wanted to start appearing in films. She got in touch with Fanck and starred in his 1926 film '' The Holy Mountain''. Plot After a mountaineer is killed attempting to climb a difficult mountain, his son dreams of conquering the peak that has defeated his father. But his mother makes him promise never to attempt it.
